Junior Full Stack Engineer — Patient 360

Products
NYB is hiring a Junior Full Stack Engineer to help build Patient 360, a longitudinal patient record platform deployed in a hospital group. Patient 360 consolidates data from many hospital systems — encounters, laboratory results, medications, allergies, procedures and clinical documents — into a single, governed view that clinicians rely on at the point of care. You'll work closely with senior engineers, data engineers and clinical stakeholders to turn messy real-world hospital data into a reliable, auditable product. No healthcare background is required; we will teach you the domain.

Responsibilities

As a Junior Full Stack Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop and maintain frontend and backend features for the Patient 360 platform.
  • Build clinical-facing UIs — patient search, timeline, encounter, results and medication views — with clarity and safety as the priority.
  • Develop and document REST/JSON APIs consumed by internal services and approved client applications.
  • Contribute to the daily batch pipeline that ingests, validates and reconciles data from hospital source systems.
  • Model and query clinical data across graph and relational databases.
  • Support identity resolution features that link one patient's records across multiple hospital systems, including the review tools used by data stewards.
  • Implement provenance, data-quality indicators and access auditing so every value on screen can be traced to its source.
  • Write automated tests, with particular attention to data correctness.
  • Participate in code review, CI/CD and release processes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues alongside senior engineers.
  • Handle patient data in line with our privacy and information governance rules, at all times.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • 1+ years full-stack experience building production web applications (internships and strong personal projects considered).
  • Develop user interfaces using React and TypeScript.
  • Support backend development with Node.js/NestJS (or a comparable framework such as FastAPI, Express or Spring).
  • Work with SQL databases and relational data modeling — joins, keys, indexes.
  • Work with Docker for local development and deployment.
  • Contribute to REST API design and documentation.
  • Participate in CI/CD processes and automated testing.
  • Debug methodically: read the error, form a hypothesis, prove it before fixing.
  • Communicate clearly in written English; our work is collaborative and largely asynchronous.
  • Willingness to ask questions early and learn a new clinical domain.

Nice to have:

  • Experience using AI code agents (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar) as part of a day-to-day development workflow.
  • Experience with graph databases (ArcadeDB, Neo4j) or query languages such as Cypher.
  • Exposure to batch/ETL pipelines — scheduling, checkpointing, reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, OMOP, SNOMED CT, ICD, LOINC).
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm or infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
  • Any hands-on work with AI/ML or LLM-based features.
  • Background working with domain experts (clinical, scientific or similar) to shape a data model.
  • Prior experience with authentication, RBAC or multi-tenant data isolation.
